The mission of nike[techlab was to lead the convergence of sport and technology to the consumer and athlete. Put simply, it was a portal into the future for Nike. It was a first, bold step into the age of interactive sports information. Along with being the most cutting-edge and innovative branch of the world's leading sports and fitness company, it represented the necessary and inevitable link between the athletic and virtual worlds.
The initial launch in 2000 consisted of five core products:
psa[play The ergonomically shaped solid-state device provided the ultimate digital portable sport audio solution.
SDM[Triax The original Speed Distance Monitor that paved the way for Nike+. Built in partnership with Dynastream Innovations, the SDM used foot-mounted accelerometers to precisely measure speed and distance for runners.
HRM[Triax Heart Rate Monitor designed to enhance performance through accurate heart rate zone information. The HRM featured an extra large, angled dot-matrix display built on the iconic S-Shape strap for superior fit and comfort.
ACG[ascentcompass An altimeter that used a patented algorithm resulting in extremely accurate altitude information that virtually eliminated barometric drift. Also included a digital compass.
psc[communicate Built for back country reliability, the ergonomic design was reinforced for durability and offered adjustable power levels for extended battery life.
Core member of the initial team that launched new products under nike[techlab in 2000. Program Manager responsible for product development and commercialization from initial design brief through retail delivery and sell-in support. Created and managed marketing product line, product user-interfaces, quote packages, tooling revisions, certifications (FCC/IC, CE, CE MDD) and final specifications. Served as primary development contact for all technology partners and vendors. Presented all new products to sales/distribution team and retail channels.
